Why L’Arche

Because people with intellectual disabilities are often pushed to the margins of our society.

L’Arche matters, especially here on the East End of Long Island.

There are so many people with intellectual disabilities in this community who could benefit from being in a home or program that will value and nurture their individual gifts to create spaces of genuine belonging. However, there are simply not enough places for them.

L’Arche Long Island is a perfect example of what our shared living model can be at its best, and why we have an obligation to better serve our communities. The shared living model is a more person-centered approach than traditional group homes, and it transforms not just the individuals it reaches, but the entire community.
